The Melodramatics is: Caleb (guitar/ vocals), Jesse (bass), Richard (trombone/keyboard), and Danny (drums); and the boys were nice enough to spend some time with Team Grid! When we spoke with the group they were fresh off their recent “Tiny Tour” in which they spent 16 days driving (and getting towed) all over the Golden State, Idaho, Nevada, and others. Unfortunately, the guys had some good old-fashioned car trouble which led to a few tows (one of which lasted from Las Vegas to Lake Havasu!) but they pulled through! Aside from these set-backs, they rallied together and still managed to get into a few hi-jinx and shenanagins.

The Melodramatics have been a Chico staple for quite some time now, and their grooves continue to attract more and more listeners. With favored tracks like “Morning Wood” and “Rock the Bar”, their presence has grown as well as their fan base. The group is a regular act at Chico watering holes like LaSalles, Normal Street, and Nick’s Lounge, and they’re also getting ready to launch a new CD to the delight of many Chico music fans. In fact, they shared some of their new tracks recently at Beer Can Beach for onlookers from the 2009 Sacramento River Float.

The new material is being recorded at HeirLoom Studios here in Chico (http://www.myspace.com/heirloomstudios), and according to the group it’s a bit more reggae, but also a bit more rock than they’ve done before.
