Z-Man - Overlooked Underground Tour
By Team Grid on August 23, 2009CHECK 1-2… Hip-Hop has recently invaded Chico. How you ask? In the form of witty and energetic Bay Area Hip Hop artist and painter Z-Man (www.myspace.com/zmainey). Z-Dazzle was kind enough to grace Chico with his presence last Friday at Chico’s own Lost On Main Nightclub (http://www.lostonmain.com/), and Team Grid was there to get the goods

Z-Man and the rest of the Overlooked Underground Tour crew came into Chico with a bang, and weren’t afraid to let their hair down, literally. According to Z-Man, he’s had fantastic support from Chico and its fans for over ten years, and he even considers it his “little Vegas away from home”. “The support has been great, I have tons of friends here now, the drinks are cheap, and there’s always quite a few lil’ apple and cherry pies runnin around!!!…” says the charismatic rapper (we’re assuming he means tasty single ladies…).
Also, if you weren’t aware, there’s a time in an artist’s life when they reach a pivotal moment. Here at The Grid, we like to call this “wiki-worthy”, and yes, in essence it means if they’re on Wikipedia, they must be legit. Z-Man is holding is down, see for yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-Man_%28rapper%29.
In terms of his roots, Z-Man says he’s been involved in music since his childhood. “Whether it was grandpa’s jazz or mom’s funk and soul or even rock, I was into it. And then hip-hop came around and I was like…$&!#” This long lasting love affair has given him the chance to please crowds nation-wide. “I’ve been writing and rapping for like 20 years or so now, and in the future I still hope to be doing shows, painting and drawing, and traveling the world”. Which is all good with us, keep the goods coming!
For more info on Z-Man, check out www.gurpcity.net, and keep your eyes peeled for his new album, 6 Pack of Dynamite.
We’ll leave you with Z-Man’s famous last words: “GOOGLE ME! Watch out for all those Arabic Z-Mans on there though; make sure you find me and the good stuff!”

Who are you kidding with “hip hop has invaded Chico”? We’ve had local hip-hop for 20 years, son. Maybe you just moved here so you could post this fluffy non-review. Wiki-worthy? I could write a wikipedia article about anybody, which does not imply importance or relevance. How does a town with a university journalism department and a vibrant music scene manage to consistently churn out sub-par music journalism?

Check this out “A DJ”. It’s an article to get people interested in the local music scene. Chico is filled with students who come and go - we hope people watch the videos or read the articles and look into Z-Man or other various artists in Chico with time hopefully we have quite a few more spots. By no means are we journalists or claim to be. The Grid is a user generated community platform and if you got a article to submit, we would be more than happy to put it up and if you want video coverage as well, I will personally shoot it myself! We love users interacting with the site and community feedback!
